News on XD45ACP availability in California
I have been asking around Sacramento shops to find an XD45ACP to buy. One says it's not approved in California; another says it needs to pass the "drop test", etc. I sent an e-mail to SA Sales with the ? and today I got a return e-mail from Debi at SA. Here is what she has to say.
"They have been approved for sale in Ca. we are now waiting the necessary paperwork. They are shipped to the distributors and the dealers buy from them. Where they go after they leave here is up to the distributors. .... I would say by May they will start showing up at the most of all the dealers shelves." I'm surprised how little the local dealers know about this topic, especially since one of them once adversited a SA "sale" and had a "SA Authorized Dealer" sticker on his window. At the same place in response to my question about availabilty of the new Taurus 24/7 Pro in 45ACP, said that he hadn't even heard about it. And he's the one in charge of handgun sales (that's Great Outdoors on Watt and Auburn). I guess it's still hard to get good help. So, hopefully by May we might be able to get one here. If anyone knows of earlier availability in Northern California, please let me know. |

I picked up a CZ from Great Outdoors. The folk there are decent enough. You just have to figure many who work there are counter jockeys and may have an interest in guns that doesn't extend beyond that.
I was in the other day asking about Tetra Grease. One guy pointed me to another who in turn directed me to someone else. I gave up. |

I bought a Ruger 10-22 there last year and he gave me the lower price advertised by Wildsports (talk about service issues). Like anything else, when you deal with humans, prepare to be disappointed and you'll never be taken by surprise. After reading a review of Montana Extreme bore cleaner in Gun Tests, I opened a bottle there and (I don't know what I was thinking) took the cap off and took a whiff - wow ! took me a few minutes to decide that I wasn't going to die right there. So, Great Outdoors will always hold a special place in my heart, and be a source of tall tales to my grandchildren - I had a near death experience at the Great Outdoors and lost a bunch of brain cells, but nobody noticed.

Danp, you mean you bought an XD45ACP at River City ? If yes, when did you do that ? I've shopped there and I like those folks. If they have them, what did they charge you for it ? I'll hold off on getting excited till I see your reply.

I got it about three weeks ago. They charged me about $550 for it. I went in as soon as I saw the gun advertised and got on a waiting list. I do know they have at least one more now (or at least they did a couple days ago). I'm an LEO, and got it for "work" so I'm not sure if they will sell them to the general public yet.
Good luck. Dan |

Hey Dan, you're right. I called there today and they said not available unless the buyer is LEO. So, I'll wait. Thanks for the information.

No prob. Treker...sorry for the time delay, but I rarely check the boards during my work week. BTW...I'm thinking of going out to Vacaville to shoot this Sat. PM me if you want to try the 45 on for size.

Thanks for the offer Dan. I'm a little late. I just looked at the forum again myself. I spent the day in SF and on the way back noticed the indoor gun range in Vacaville right off I-80 (on the East side of the road). Is that where you shoot ? I've got a good friend who lives in Oakland and he sometimes comes up to Sacramento to shoot. Maybe we'll meet in the middle if you give the place a good recommendation. I borrowed a friends Colt Diamondback 22LR and I'm pretty excited about taking that out this week to the indoor range in Elk Grove (a very nice place). I'm resigned to waiting until probably May for the XD45.
