Wish the New XD was new Service 45 for Military!

http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htw.../20060127.aspx

I've got my XD45 and love it. If SOCOM and the DOD are looking for a new 45. It should be the XD45ACP. Im sure everyone has seen the torture test. It fits smaller hands. ETC ETC. Ive been to the Desert and my M9 sucks. It has no stopping power, and is hard to maintain in the field. The XD45ACP is the way to go.

Question Now is how do "we" get the XD a chance to be the "ONE"?

Yeah, the XD-45 ACP would be a great alternative to the M-9. What I would like to know is how can I get a pistol the next time I'm deployed? All I get is a M-16. Being a 88M (tranportation) it sucks knowing that as a driver I have to try and drive while holding a M-16.

Is anyone in your command going to bitch if you brought your own weapon? All we were issued was M16s and section leaders had M9s and we were in armored vehicles. It was pretty much said that if you got something better feel free to bring it. But then again our MOS is one of the first in usually so we get a little freedom during combat.

Hell yeah, they'd bitch. I've got 20 years in and they tell me that bringing a personal side arm is a safety issue. I've never had a negligent discharge in my 20 years, but they don't seem to want to trust anyone other than Officers and Sergeant Majors with pistols. Heck, I even qualified expert with the M-9 during Small Arms Range School and they don't trust me.

Idiots.

It would be nice to have both in a vehicle, but I can't imagine getting out and trying to pull security with a pistol.

I was told we could bring personal weapons to Iraq but It would be a problem getting it home. So if you bring one you better be ready leave it when you come home.

Why would I pull security witha pistol??? THAT is what the M-16 or SAW is for. But, imaine driving in a city, seeing a BG approaching your door, and trying like mad to get your M-16 out the window. THAT is the situation where a pistol comes in handy.

I was on a mission to a FOB in Hillah and got taken through DownTown at night because the MPs leading the convoy got LOST!! Iraqis all over within 5' of my window. That scared the crap out of me because I knew I couldn't drive for **** with a SAW (my assigned weapon at the time) across the steering wheel and I knew that was all I had. I would've loved having a pistol right then. Thank GOD we didn't get attacked.

You should not have any troube buying a pistol once you are in country. Glocks are easy to come by, I bet if you took a couple minutes to talk with a contractor you could have one by the end of the day. Also its not a trust issue, its a quality, parts availibility, ammo problem. The do not want some 17 year old bringing some cheap peice of crap that may get him/her killed. Stay safe.
