Question about Hogue grip
I purchased the Hogue handall grip with my XD 45 and do not like the way the material fits with the small section notched out for the grip safety. It fit very well, with only about a .25" of material covering the safety, but after trimming it doesn't fit tight near the top.
Question. Besides defeating the purpose of the grip safety(which I know may not be the smartest thing), are there any other problems with just covering up part of the safety? And leaving it that way? Like internal damage? Please be kind if this is a stupid question, as this is my first pistol with this type of safety. Thanks in advance.

I am using the Hogue at the moment and solved the issue with the flapping edges by cutting a triangle of double-sided carpet backing tape and sticking it under the edge of the cut portion of the rubber grip. Problem solved!

You can leave the grip safety covered without damage--you'd basically have a Glock with a better grip angle then. But, you could get into trouble. I put on a new Hogue Handall before qualifying the gun for CCW at my range, and I forgot to cut out the section for the grip safety. When they inspected the weapon they said "This gun has been altered and cannot be qualified." So I took out my razor-knife and cut away the section and all was well. But this leads me to believe that if a situation ever arose where the cops found/checked your gun, or if you used it in self-defense, you may have a problem because you have altered a safety device. I could be wrong about this though, I would check your state laws...
