They are band-aiding the problem, which is why I am getting rid of mine. I have looked on the auction sites and see XD45s and no bids. My advice is steer clear of the XD45 until they address the problem properly and REALLY fix it.

I'm new to the XD world. I've been a Glock owner for quite some time. They had essentially flawless performance...however I hated how they fit my hand. It never felt comfortable...so when I held an XDM I fell in love. I recently purchased an XDM-9. Thus far it's been perfect and I find myself shooting more accurately. Good purchase? I thought so until this thread.

I thought I'd read all the forums regarding reliability...but just ran across this one. Are XD's poorly designed? Poor manufacturing tolerances? Poor quality control of their production guns? I've read quite a few of the posts in this thread (it's huge). I'm no gunsmith and have no desire to "tinker" with my guns to make them work or be reliable. I did like that about Glock...very reliable out of the box.

I wanted an XDM .45 for every day carry..and bought the 9 for 3 gun competition. My thoughts were to "run some rounds through" the 9 until a .45 XDM came out...but now I'm not sure I should even keep my 9. Am I being reactionary after reading this thread? Are these guns reliable enough to REALLY trust my (AND especially my families) life to?

Yes and yes.

This thread is about the XD-45, not the 9mm.

I was told that SA changed the locking block dimensions on the .45's and this is when they began having these issues.
I have the first XD-45 I bought some years ago. It'll shoot dirt clods!

The 9mm XD's by and large are amazingly reliable...

I havnt read all pages of info here yet but on quick examination it seems you are using rainier or copper coated bullets with a short O.A.L. try using some regular fmj bullets to a factory oal and I would bet that your problem will go away. Just yesterday I loaded some lead short OAL bullets and they were doing the same thing came home and switched my load and went back out problem gone.

I use Rainier bullets in my range ammo.
My super expensive XD custom was doing this before SA replaced the barrel with a match grade unit. Problem fixed and gun nicely upgraded at the same time!
Too bad I can't sell it now because of this thread...

The problem wasn't with the OAL of my loads, as it exhibited the same issue with multiple rounds- factory or otherwise- in varying OAL's.

Do you know when they made the change to the locking block dimensions?

My 45 Tactical has shot everything I've stuck in it so far. SWC, Hollow Points, what ever.
SN# is 756XXX

I can't even prove that they actually did change it, but the source that told me is one I believe.

We didn't hear about this issue on earlier XD .45's...

shoots everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also must concur, my 5" tac xd45 will eat anything you can put in it. I am amazed that many have problems with swc, I commonly reload swc all the time and enjoy my xd greatly. sorry that I don't have more "problems".

Semi-wadcutters are the only thing my XD-45's haven't shot reliably.

Yours is an exception, as it's been pretty well documented that XD's don't like them.

Nonetheless, I've never been a big fan of SWC ammo, so I'm cool with a gun that shoots everything else.
