Got one today and....
was surprised. I'd been in the same gun shop last week and they said they expected them in a couple of weeks. As I learned, they had received a shipment yesterday so I bought one. Took it home, cleaned and lubed it, then went by Walmart for WWB before getting to the range. At the range, put 125 rounds of WWB, 20 rounds total of five types of personal defense rounds, and 70 rounds of 200 and 225 grain cast reloads through the targets. It is a very accurate pistol!!! Near the end of shooting, I put the Insight M6X on the rail, centered the laser above the front sight and fired six rounds of Win XTP from approximately 15 feet. This was as far back as I could get and still see the laser dot on the target due to the sun. All six rounds hit where the laser was hitting.
FYI, the shell casing envelope was dated 10 Jan 06. |

Picked mine up today. One thing I can say is this FEELS like a 45ACP - no doubt about it. Perfect fit, even better than the 9 or 40 I own. Me thinks this is the perfect 45 for my hand and it sights out excellent.
My observations (I am not an expert nor do I play one on TV, but my wife keeps telling me I think I am 1. Jeez this gun feels great. I held a Glock 21 just to make sure this was the gun I wanted - no comparison. The XD just feels better on the wrist and more natural in my hand. My M3X fit perfect. Now to put some heinie's on there 2. The material around the grip/mag well sides is VERY thin compared to the 9 and 40. Not really sure you'll want to run this one over in a torture test. My Kahr P9 is the same way, so no biggie to me. 3. The barrel is also thin, so I don't know how that will affect a kaboom compared to the 9 and 40. A kaboom in any gun is a bad thing regardless of the make. A little more material might help to shield and absorb the energy of the explosion. 4. The free goodies (not really free, right?) are nice, especially the loader. That will definitely come in handy. The holster has a nice 15 degree cant and does fit the other XDs, but the mag holder is strictly for the 45ACP. Maybe I'll use it, but it will kill the finish tute sweet. I did notice finish wear already above the slide release and left rear serrations (can see shiny metal) out of the box. It also is showing a little bare metal around the S and P of SPRINGFIELD on the slide. I guess I'll call them about it Monday. All in all I think Springfield did a great job with the 45ACP. I already have a Sherriff's Deputy wanting to show it to his folks, especially for the female deputies since they carry Glock 21s right now.
