guide rod(i think thats what its called) question

i noticed today that there is a gap between the guide rod and the slide. can someone please tell me if this is normal. i had a friend check it out and he told me that it appeared to be assembled properly and that it might be normal. the gap isnt that large. its probably an eigth of an inch or so.

thanks

It's normal. There is a thread with photos that deals with the recoil assembly rod extending the amount you describe. Mine does.
