Careful checking of the forcing cone is very important. Carbon and crud is rarely completely cleaned in this area and it could cover up a crack.

yeah, tightness is ussaly reguarded as cylinder roll. open up the gun and when you click it shut, give it the normal twist to lock it, then using the thumb and fore finger see if it has any travel.
check for any surface rust, ect. if it has rust on the outside there is most likely rust inside. in that case put some oil\lube in the mechinism. dry fire it a few times to get it circulating, and rust will drip out on the trigger line, keep wiping it up and eventually your gun will be lubricated better and with less rust.
im a complete gun newbie, im just sharing some expriences with you guys. when i pulled my fathers old gun, thats what the gun smith did.

What I look for the most in a used revolver is a wad of $1,000 bills in each chamber. Still looking.

How about concealability? How about caliber, i.e., a .45 snub?

I posted this in another thread but just wanted to end this sticky thread right. Here is what I ended up getting.
Brief Story:
I went to the range with a buddy of mine. I wasnt even going to go there cause I usually shoot outside but he got off work early and really wanted to hit the range (it was raining). What I see in the case is a gun that Ive always wanted but never had the dough at the time to get it. It was a used (obviously) but VERY VERY good shape Colt Python 6". Just the tiniest bit of wear at the tip of the barrel and some slight wear marks on the cylinder from use. The rest spotless. $800. I had 300.00 in gift certs that my wife got me for xmas so it only cost me out of pocket just over 500.00. It was on consignment and was just put it on the shelf the day before. Great timing.
Thing shoot GREAT. Best trigger Ive ever felt.
Thanks for all the help/info.
