Hey old folks! How do i clean a 1800s revolver?

So 1880s revolver think I'm going to take it to the show tomorrow and sell it. Do I A use CLP B use mobil 1 C just wipe it with a dry rag and call life good?

Nice little Hopkins and allen manufacturing co Patent March 28 1971 model: XL #3 NY.

I'm guessing its 80s, stopped production before guns were guns. If you guys have a website you think would do well to sell on, or if you want it its value from my google fu is 350-500 depending on condition, super light rust in the barrel with strong rifling and good lock up, I feel its worth 450.

Those are 22s just in the pic btw. I can't afford .32 rimfire ammunition.

Current though (will be updated as advice rolls in): Use a jag and cotten patch no chemicals and just wipe it down.

I was going to suggest clp, before I looked at the pics. You're going to want something that is not going to penetrate the metal, because of micro cracks, etc. Maybe a good heavy weight motor oil might do the trick, but I'd have it x-rayed first (for structural integrity).

Don't clean it with anything. Anyone who's interested will want to do that themselves.

Better to leave it as is.

OOh very good thought. I already used a q tip to clean out the chambers they had so much lint in them. Did that months ago when I got it. Your probably right most collectors will view them as doing as better job than a "kid" and they are probably right.

What he said! Many prospective sellers have totally devalued their old guns by cleaning to the point of removing the natural patina of the metal. Wipe it down with a dry cloth and let it ride.
