I've had a 686 for years and have fired thousands of rounds out of it without nary the first issue, I agree with the others regarding neglect on the range's part and they certainly didn't act very professional afterwards.

I would agree with the other opinions I've read here: a neglected rental, likely never cleaned, possibly out of time, and very likely a squib bullet stuck in the bore.

I wouldn't condemn the S&W 686, however I WOULD condemn that range!!

Smith 19s are known to crack barrels at the forcing cones. I have a 19-3 and do not run heavy 357s in it. nothing heaver then 125 grain factory loadings or slightly reduced loading in 158 and up loadings. If I was shooting heavy loads I would go for the larger frames. When shooting a Smith I always check the forcing cone for problems when cleaning as even timing issues show up there 1st.
