Rossi .38??

At my favorite LGS the have a used Rossi .38 snub nose all black for $250ish. From what I can tell its in good shape, but I know nearly nothing about revolvers. Anybody know much about this gun? Is that a good price?

It's my understanding that most, if not all, of the Rossi revolvers are or were produced by Taurus. I just recently picked up a used Taurus 605 (357/38 spl) and am really impressed with the build, fit, and finish. I haven't fired it yet, but am itching to do so. I'd imagine that the Rossi would be a nice one to pick up...

Take a look at the sticky above "what to look for in a used revolver"

Rossi/Taurus have never been known for outstanding quality control.

They even admitted it recently in a video:

There was an article about it at guns.com, but they must have removed it.

Cool. I've shot one of my friend's Rossi's and it was nice. He has a few of them and just added another to his collection, so I personally wouldn't be afraid to pick one up.

Here's an interesting tid bit pulled from the History section of Taurus' webpage:

Taurus International Manufacturing Inc - History

"In the meantime, Smith & Wesson had been purchased by a conglomerate named Bangor Punta. In 1970, Bangor Punta also purchased 54% of Taurus. Thus, the two companies became "sisters". Smith & Wesson never owned Taurus. They were both independent companies. However, during the next seven years, a great deal of technology and methodology was passed between the two. What may come as a surprise to some is that more of what was "right" in Porto Alegre was sent to Springfield than was sent from Springfield to south of the equator."

At the same time, Forjas Taurus, S.A. purchased the rights and the equipment to manufacture Rossi handguns. Taurus manufactures three models of .38 Special revolvers and four models of .357 Magnum revolvers under contract with Rossi. Revolvers sold by BrazTech with the Rossi name are manufactured in a brand new facility owned by Taurus in SaoLeopoldo, Brazil. Much of the tooling and many of the machines were acquired from Rossi during negotiations between the companies.

I did not know this about Rossi and Taurus, thanx!! I was looking at these two companies for a .45 or a .357 revolver too.

Taurus are good revolvers. Rossi are also good, with the exception that I've found Rossi triggers to be HEAVY and somewhat gritty. BTW, if it says "Taurus" on it, it's a Taurus. If it says "Made by Taurus", it's a Rossi.
