I own a Rossi .357 and it's a good gun. No quality control issues with mine to report. I probably have 1500 rounds through it, much of that being 38 Spl.

Mine is old enough that when it was made, Rossi was its own separate, independent company. Interarms used to import them back then, they handled Star brand guns too. But yeah I'd say go for it.

We have a Rossi model 971 .357 2-1/2 stainless, came with adj. sights. My wife picked it out as her CC gun. We bought it new in the early 1990's. It has been thru 3 handgun schools and shoot probably 2000 rounds flawlessly. It could not be any better even the trigger is good. Heavy yes but not bad recoil for her.

It says INTERARMS, Alexandria, Va. Made in Brazil. It stays in a table on my side of the bed mainly because she has her Ruger SP101 .357 4.2 inch on her side of the bed.

I have a pre-Taurus Rossi m971 .357 2.5" as well, from personal experience it's been a great gun, specially since I bought it from a friend for 100 bucks 15 years back. I own a Taurus m85 .38 2" and a Taurus m669 .357 4", mine have been nice, well functioning revolvers.

Back in the 70's I subscribed to Guns and Ammo. They did an entire article blasting a Rossi 357 magnum. They shot 38's through the gun first and showed pictures of the forcing cone splitting. They then asked the obvious question, what if they had been testing with 357 Magnums?

I'm hoping the quality control has improved since then. Another thing I remember is it looked as if they were painted and about every one I looked at in a GS or pawn shop the "paint" was peeling off. Just my memory. I wish I could find that article.

Im about to buy a 44mag Rossi. They are made int he same factory as taurus ....so Ive been told. I've heard nothing but good things. With anything mass produced, there are always storries of one gone wrong.

Little late to the party but my dad owns a .38 Rossi. He bought it about 25 years ago and it still works great to this day. Never have any issues with it.

I have a Rossi 2" snub 38 special model 68 that is a Rossi not a Taurus. Mine has Interarms on the barrel which I believe makes it a pre Taurus gun. I bought it in the early 90's. It has all the original bluing and shoots without problem and is surprisingly accurate. I think I paid $125 for it used at a gun show. From what I have read the model 68 was probably the best of Rossi revolvers. I have not seen many older Rossi guns for sale. Perhaps because they were good guns.
Taurus has had some really bad rap on their semi autos as well as their revolvers, but people seem to forget the problems that Colt and Smith are known for. Taurus revolvers going out of time and even unable to rotate after shooting a few rounds. Colt revolvers known for going out of time and Smiths for barrels cracking. Makes me a little leery to pay maybe twice as much as a Taurus for either of the two biggest names. I have not been impressed enough with Colt to pay for the name. I don't think their name lives up to a Mercedes price level of quality over the average priced guns. For the money I don't think a Ruger can be beat for the price or quality. Ruger SP101 or the GP100 revolvers are built like tanks and are really showing to be great guns at decent prices.
I agree that lemons can get squeezed through from time to time with any mass produced guns from the cheapest to the more expensive brands. When considering thousands made without problems then few with problems is not bad I guess. If your gun meets your expectations then what more can you ask for? Excepting maybe getting it for like a steal bargain price.
If the gun checks out in good condition then I would not hesitate to buy it.
