So I want to get a snubby

Decided I want to get my first wheelgun. I know I want a .357 snub nose, short grip, and concealed hammer. I don't want to spend over $500. I've looked at S&W, Taurus, charter, ruger, and Rossi. Are there any I'm over looking. I know Taurus and Charter have their scattered problems and it seems like Rossi is having a few on their new guns. I don't really plan on shooting this gun a lot. Occasional range use and I will probably carry it in a belly band when I run. What are your guys personal experiences with what you have. No stories about what happened to joe bob's cousin. I like the smith too but we are building a house right now and money is getting dumped into that so cheaper is better.

Have you ever shot a snubbie .357 with short grips? Personally, I'd get a Taurus Model 85-type and shoot .38 spcl. +p.

For pocket carry check out the Ruger LCR .357. I shot their .38spl and the grips really helped with recoil punishing the space between your thumb and index finger. I opted for the S&W bodyguard 38 since it was more of a lefty friendly snubby.

Guarenteed you'll shoot more .38 specials through one. 357 is not enjoyable in a snubby. You can find several S&W 38s in your price range that are rated for plus p's.

Yeah I plan on shooting mostly 38. Probably carry the 357 on hikes and what not. I really want a concealed hammer. The sp101 is nice but can it be had for less than 500?

I have a Taurus 605 .357 and I only shoot .38 Spc out of it. I shot 25 .357 and I saw no need after the first box. I just stick with .38 Spc +p for SD and .38 special reloads(my own) for practice. I have about 100 .357 loaded up but I plan on adding a .357 4" barrel of some sort. But I agree with the above comments get a .38 Spc +p and don't look back.

I'm very satisfied with my Smith 642 and feel the 38 +P is plenty adequate as a SD round. Given that price and weight, since you want to go running with it, are considerations, you might want to look into it. If funds are limited, I prefer to have a pistol I trust to be reliable, even if it means giving up a little in ballistics.

Lcr .357

I've had a LCR .357 for a while now and it's a great gun. I've shot quite a bit of .357 Mag through it, but I like that sort of thing . It does have a kick, but it's a joy to carry. The trigger is sweet for a DAO revolver and I can verify that it does get better with use. I shoot all of my guns a quite often and the little Ruger has held up well through about 800 rounds.

The gun is also accurate for having a 1.87" barrel. I was supprised how well it points. The gun comes with a black front sight and IMHO you need something with some contrast up front as the sights can blend in with a darker target. There are plenty of after market options.

I bought mine for less than $450 out the door and I think it's the best hammerless .357 revolver on the market.

LCR is looking like a good option too.
