Hello, my wheelgun friends
I've been away from revolvers for some time now. I've run the gammut of 1911, Hi-power to XD/XDM. Posted on a couple of forums offering to trade my XD40sc for a snubbie .38. Colt, ruger, SW- no Taurus or Charter Arms.
Any advice for someone who hasn't dealt with revolvers for 30+ years?
I'd really like it if someone offered a Colt Detective Special, Agent, or Cobra, but I don't imagine that'll happen.
Really like the XD, but I don't need two forties; esp with a 9 and 45.

new s&w j frames are around 400 bucks or slightly under... I hear great things about the lcr also. I have a 342 smith and it's nice.

I was just offered a SW 36-2 with a rounded butt of unknown vintage. 90 per cent and stainless. I'll be getting a photo later.
What does the dash 2 signify?

I'd expect original box & paperwork with it for the price of an XDSC.
I'd go even trade for an LCR I think. Throw in a few bucks toward a Smith J-frame or Ruger SP or GP if it has the box & manual. Probably a few more bucks for an airweight or a Colt.

if this S&W 36 is pre-internal lock, with factory and aftermarket grips, and really 90% I'll be happy to trade straight across. I only have 400 in the XDsc and the 36 sells for more than that. Happy esp since I have a 45c, 9sc, and XDM40c also.
Later on maybe I can swap it for an LCR.
Still don't know what the -2 means.

Perhaps you should sell your XD first?
I bought a used 638 for $300, have about $400 in it as it sits:

Still think I'd a little better than break even with a swap. I'd be lucky to get my money out of it in a private sale. Ivalue my XD40sc with the essentials and additional 12-round mag at $400. I have all original paperwork. It's very pristine at 95%.

I don't know what the -2 (dash two) means either. On S&W revolvers, the dash followed by a number denotes an engineering change.
I can't find information on what change specifically happened for the 36-2. You might be able to find it online, or you may have to take a look @ the Standard Catalog of S&W (third edition).

I bought it home yesterday. I took the grips off and found a coil spring where I had anticipated seeing a flat mainspring. The markings do not tell me it's plus-P rated. The barrel is not pinned, and the hammer has a replacable firing pin. There's no lock either.
The trigger is nice and smooth; anxious to get it to the range. Might spend a little money for a spurless hammer. Don't want to deface the original so I'd just swap it out.
