+1
I was also going to recommend the 460S&W.

Love my raging bull .454 with 8.375" barrell. It is crazy accurate and will knock down anything. I like how it feels in my hand as well as the trigger in single action. My favorite thing is that unlike the ruger and s&w it is ported. This means the world to me in such a powerful gun, but it is LOUD.

I would go with the 500 smith just because its the biggest most powerful production pistol round. also make sure to get at least a 4 inch barrel. I dont see the point in getting a 2.5 inch barrel revolver in such a big caliber because you know you will not be carrying iwb and the loss of velocity will not be worth it. I almost bought a used 500 smith for 700 dollars from a guy, but he lived bout an hour away and I did not have time till the weekend to meet him he had already sold it by then with that being said, ammo is ridiculous and I really had no purpose for it. I know this would be a down grade but have you considered a 44 magnum? Ammo is considerably less

Could always just get a 410 shotgun and do this. According to the guys in the video at around 2:40, the bullet is moving at ********* speeds.

I have a 4" 500S&W. In my opinion, this gun kicks no worse with standard loads than a 44 magnum with heavy loads, due to the excellent job that Smith and Wesson did with the barrel porting and the excellent hogue grip with internal gel pack. 440 hard cast loads (Cor-bon) are pretty severe, but still managable for me (I am not particualary recoil-shy). For me, the only way to own this gun and shoot it often is to handload.
The accuracy of this revolver is nothing short of spectacular (yes, even the 4"). I can regularly hit a coffe can at 100 yards with the open sights. Of course, I shoot every weekend.
I do not own a 460, but have shot them. Excellent revolver. The 454 Casull is an excellent cartridge and the Taurus a good platform. I have no experience with this gun other than what I have been told and read.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

Well, I finally ordered it (that took a while!!!) I ordered a 2.5" Ruger SRH Alaskan in .454
It might be some time before it comes in though, as the lady said he supplier was out of stock, and they might have to get it from another dealer.

Dude, you're going to enjoy it. Congrats on the new piece. Dont know if you have held the alaskan prior or not, but the thing reminds me of the hellboy gun everytime I take it out. Report back and let us know what you think when you get it. FYI if you dont mind me prying, what did you pay? Mine was just a hair over $700 when I picked mine up.
I posted back in post 4, but to hold you over...

Wow, thank you for the pic with the XDM .40 in it! When you get a chance, could you post one of them side by side lookig down the sights? To see how wide it is at the cylinder?
I can't wait to run some double taps through it!
I ended up paying $783 + tax, so I will probably be at $850 OTD as I"ll have to talk them into a deal on a holster when I'm there
