S&W 327 PD - anyone else tried this? - 56k beware
This is my first and only revolver i have ever owned, but i have shot a 4" Dan Wesson .357 mag, and a S&W 642 air weight 38+P. I like the feel of a revolver in your hand, it just seems solid, but that 327 PD is in a class of its own. Its so light ( at about 24.3 oz. empty) , and nimble in your hands, and not to mention its still accurate as S#$T. Just wondering if anyone else had any experiences with this model, or the 329 PD (44 special/44 magnum). Let me know what you think, if it's anything like mine, im sure if you got a hold of one yourself, you would never let it slip from your ownership.

ummm....I'm not sure, but it's an 8 shot .357 built on an N frame right?
I know the 3 denotes it as an airlight....

yeah it's an 8 shot .357 magnum, with a titanium cylinder and a scandium aluminum N-frame. The scandium aluminum is an alloy that takes an liquid aluminum solution and alloys some scandium particles. Scandium is a material that is one under titanium in the periodic table. The scandium aluminum acts as a strengthening material. It is only slightly less that titanium itself, but much cheaper to achieve, and a little lighter i believe. Titanium and aluminum can not be effectively alloyed since they do not have the same basic cell structure (aluminum i believe is face centered cubic, while titanium is a body centered), because of the different cell structures these material cannot be cost-effectively alloyed.
Sorry for the materials lesson, I just never really understood why you didn't just make the whole gun out of titanium, now i know since i am taking this materials course (MAE 3200). Engineering is so exciting!

Just be careful cleaning the cylinder; I've heard several accounts of the finish on the titanium being damaged by solvents.
It's one of the reasons I opted for a steel cylinder 325NG over a titanium cylinder 325PD.

I see this is an old post, but I have the 327PC 2". It's my weekend carry gun (I carry an XD40SC most of the time mon-fri concealed pretty deep due to where I go and how I dress). I bought it in Oct 2008.
It's very light and very accurate. I chronographed 5 rounds of Hornady leverevolution. They were all between 1100-1150 fps, very respectable for a 2" barrel. I shot from a sandbag aiming at an 8.5x11 sheet of paper @ 50 yards and hit it all five times.
I replaced the grips with some older (probably early 1980s) N-frame grips my dad had lying around in his basement. they are a little bit wider from side to side, and a little narrower front to back, so they are even more comfortable than the factory wood (not to mention having a much better figure). It's pretty glossy because my dad went crazy on the tru-oil 20 years ago, but I'm planning to take a little 0000 steel wool to it to get it back to a matte finish.
I would like to try one of the longer versions (maybe the TRR as well.
