Anyone bought/shot the LCR .357 yet?

I just got a job that requires dress attire and I will be seated and exposed for most of the day, so CCing my SP2022 is out of the question. I've pretty much settled on the LCR as my next gun for pocket-carry CC, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the .357 variant. Seems to me that for the same price, I would be crazy to NOT buy the .357 over the .38, seeing as I could always shoot .38 +p out of it. However, if I find a whole lot of bad reviews for the .357, I'll just go for the .38, as I can likely find it cheaper. I'm not usually one to do the whole caliber-war thing, but the .357 is as infamous as the .45, and if I'm only able to carry 5 bullets, I want maximum power as long as it's still controllable.

Thanks for any help XDers!

You may just wanna shoot a lightweight .357 with a full-power load and decide for yourself. It's an eye-opener.

The LCR bucks pretty good with regular .38 spl loads, never mind the +P and .357 mag.
If I was getting one, I would still get the .357 model just for versitility's sake. The little added weight might help calm down the recoil of the lighter loads a fraction for range duty. I'd still carry .357 for defense. I imagine if you're pulling it to defend yourself you probably won't feel the recoil much no matter the load.
Go rent one and try it out and see if its what you want though.

Yeah, I'd buy the 357 model even if you only end up shooting 38 out of it. It'd be nice to have the option to shoot 357 if you decide to.

I agree. The extra weight of the 357 model would help tame full bore 38 loads better than the standard LCR.

I have the .38 LCR and a Taurus .357 Model 65. I shudder to think of putting .357 rounds through such a lightweight revolver...I finally got the chance to fire my new LCR yesterday, and I must say, it was pretty stout. My Taurus .357 is pretty tame, mainly because of the weight, but still...I just don't think a .357 through a 18oz revolver would be fun. Or accurate.

I've never thought the recoil, even with +P's, was that bad with my LCR. But everyone's a little different. Now with the LCR-357 out, I've been thinking about "upgrading". Bottom line for me, this is a 10yds or closer SD gun. Even with stout recoil, you ought to get your first shot on target, otherwise consider turning in your license. So I may do it just for the versatility and knowing I have a round that can defend me even through cover if need be.

If the recoil is too much

I would not want to shoot it much, but as you said, It's close up SD gun. Get proficient with 38s and then stoke it with 357s for carry, you'll never notice the recoil if you use in an actual shooting.

At least not right then.

the only downside to shooting 38's from a 357 mag chamber is you lose velocity. The gap to the forcing cone is about 1/8 inch longer and causes you to lose about 75 fps which doesnt seem like much but when you are talking about a gun with a sub 2" barrel you are already losing alot of velocity and the 75 fps can be the difference of a bullet performing correctly or not. for self defense purposes if you plan to shoot only 38's get the 38 special model if you get the 357 model plan to shoot only 357 mags.
