S & W 44 identification?

a buddy of mine is asking me for info about this revolver and honestly ive never gotten into them so i need some assistance. supposedly smith and w, 44 mag, fired VERY little, like under 20 rounds. a family member of his offered it to him for around 500$. from the little ive seen of the s&w's they always go for a pretty high price.

anyone know a model number or any other notable info?

thanks in advance..

Looking like a model 29. Open the cylinder and model # will be visible.

Pic. Right click, open in new window, log in again. Pic will be viewable.

$500 would be an excellent buy. Look for mdl 29s on gunbroker.com .

more than likely a 29, it's the most popular of the magnums.

how old is the gun?

looks like it still has the firing pin on the hammer (though I'm not sure if the 29 ever lost that)

ask him to get the serial number on it to see when it was born

certain years weren't as durable as others. The one I have is one of the weaker ones from the early 80's...needs to have another trip to the factory for action work.
