Need help deciding!

I am in the market for a new platform and I have been considering both the Xbox360 and the Ps3. I just wanted to hear from the people who own them what they thought of their systems. I am leaning more towards the 360 because they carry the games I like. Halo, COD4, etc.. Although that whole rings of death sucks and I wouldn't want it to happen to me.
I also like the Ps3 because of blue ray and the fact that it doesn't overheat and there is no huge brick to plug the system to the wall.
For those PS3 users out there how does COD4 look as far as graphics. I will be using the new system with a new lcd tv. (TAX RETURN BABY)
Well any info would be appreciated. I rather hear from you guys than a bunch of snobs who review the systems online.

well, if you havent noticed from my other thread. I just got my 360 replaced do to hardware failure. The newer 360 machines (like my replacement) are now running (in theory, you need to check each console and not just assume) on new, more reliable chipsets. That, coupled with Microsofts warranty program, makes for a package that is less than perfect than but still desirable. My primary reason for buying a 360 when I did was because it simply had more good games out for it than the PS3. Not out of any sort of console preference. I owned a PS2 and a Xbox 1. I am not a fanboy of any particular console like some you will find here and elsewhither. My goal is simply to play good video games, regardless of console. For me, Mass Effect and Bioshock were enough reason to go with the 360. Halo 3 is cool, however, once i got COD:4 (the best game i have ever played bar none) i stopped playing Halo.

that said, I am a HUGE fan of the Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo franchises. I have been since their birth back on the PSone. These titles alone would be enough to make me get a PS3 if offered the choice now. However, my plan from the beggining has been to eventually get both. And i would recommend the same course of action to any serious gamer.

In closing though, if I had to choose between the two at this point in time, I would go with the PS3. Its exclusive titles are finally starting to come in, and it better reliability gives it the edge. However, you should still get a 360 later

Thanks for the input. I will probably end up with a Ps3 and like you said get an xbox later.

I am not too familiar with the systems, but doesn't the PS3 also serve as a BluRay player too? That would have to be a big advantage.

Yes it does, and I'm told by a knowledgeable person that the HDDVD movies will start to phase out due to the popularity of BluRay (but who knows).

I defended my XBOX to the death against my PS2 buddies, but as far as the new systems go, the PS3 easily takes the cake, IMO.

IMO the ONLY reason to get a PS3 is the blu-ray player. The 360 has a lot more games on the market. And with the new chipsets they are more reliable. The 360 has taken a huge bite out of the PS3 exclusives with the arrival of Grand Theft Auto and rumors of Metal Gear Solid. If you are interested in a Blu-ray then buy a PS3, but if you are a gamer get a 360. Much more variety and much better games at this point and in the near future.

The HD-DVD format has officially tanked. ALL major studios have stopped producing them and they are harder and harder to find. Blu-Ray has won the format war and will be the only HD movie format unless something else pops up. (doubtful)

I have both and play them both quite a bit. Glock was on the right track, HDDVD is dead. Most stores with HD DVD in stock are now 50% off or more. The 360 does have the PS3 on the multiplayer side. But as far as graphics and alot of other aspects like having Blu Ray capability the PS3 has the 360 hands down. And Metal Gear Solid is not coming out on 360 due to the fact that a standard dvd will not hold the game. They had problems squeezing all of it onto a BluRay.

Metal Gear coming to the 360 is just speculation and the amount of data not being able to fit on a standard DVD is very true but have we never seen a game come out with multi-discs? A-la Resident Evil in the early days.
