Same thing happened to my brother's seldom used Xbox.

I've had to exchange my box 4 times since I bought mine on release night. I'm hoping this is the last time as the new box I just got has an hdmi connection and has the new chip set. It runs much more quiet and MUCH more cool. I still keep it well ventilated and a small book
underneath it so the vents on the bottom are open. From what I have read if it has an hdmi port it has the new chip set and SHOULD be much more reliable. And just to make it clear I do not have an Elite, which have always come with hdmi ports.

mine was the elite. but i think it might have had the old chipset. all these stories of long turnaround times scare me.

go get some computer case fans.. build a wood stand to stand the xbox upright.. get a power supply some wiring a switch and never worry again!!
Ill post pics tomorrow of what I build if I remember to. My box runs cooler after playing for hours than it did before just sitting on the main menu with no game in the slot!! Heat = BAD! but mine is an "elite'' so it shouldnt have that problem anyway |

i bought mine about a year and half ago
it lasted 4 days, then while in a scouting mission for Ghost Recon (i think) my 3-shi*** says no more.. so i took it back to the retailer, and i was just gonna return it, you know no harm no foul. well, when i got up to the line i saw that there was a stack of 5 or 6 on the counter behind the clerk; when asked about them she said that theyre all just freezing and thats it... so i just said refund, later and im out. been gun shy of the 3-shi*** ever since.. my ps2 is still rocking and i got my PC-COD4 so its all good in the hood

Mine just died about an hour ago. I'll be making a phone call in the morning. I've only had it for 5 months and it gets minimal use.
