PS3 Update Question
I just got a 40GB PS3, and I need to know how to install the downloads. Do I have to hook it up to my computer? if so, how often, and do I use a USB cable or another type?
Please excuse me, I am really ignorant when it comes to these game things. Thanks. |

If I remember correctly you have two options. First, if you have a wireless system in your house, you can set up the PS3 to do downloads that way. Second, you can hardline it with a CAT5 cable.
Here is the link to sony.com and internet connection: PlayStation.com |

I see that is came with an update disk, but I guess that's just to use the very first time?
I went to the update page at playstation.com, and was able to download the update to my computer. if I understand it right, I can copy it to a disk and put that in the PS3, I think. |

Just connect it to your network via wireless or wired in the network setting menu and go to the top and hit system update and everything will be done automatically....

I don't have a wireless set-up, so it would have to be wired.
How exactly do I do it? Can I just use a USB from my computer to the PS3? The PS3 is in the livingroom, and the computer is in my bedroom. It's sad, but I really need step by step directions, and I haven't been able to find any. |

I already tried that, but I still don't understand it. I'm serious, I know nothing about this Playstation stuff.
I was messing with the PS3, and it seemed to pick up a wireless signal from one of my neighbors, but it was asking for some kind of password or something. Either way, it wouldn;t connect to their signal. Last edited by Tripledigitride : 03-21-2008 at 09:59 PM. |

The PS3 is basically a computer. It gets its updates over the internet, which means it needs a network connection. That means you need to either connect to a wireless network or connect it to a hard-wired network with an ethernet cable.

Ok, I can do that. I can dissconnect it from the back of my computer, then plug it into the PS3. When doing this, will I need to have some kind of monitor or TV hooked to the PS3? This sounds like it's going to be a pain.
