Xbox 360 problems
I've read some pros and cons about the 360. My son bought me one in April so we could play COD4 on-line and yes its addictive. Anyways over the last month its been getting harder and harder to get a game to load. Sometimes it takes loading the games 5-8 times before it gets going. It will state that the game is dirty or scratched. I've tried different games including the Madden 10, same thing. After looking at the on-line support help section I decided to send it in to be fixed. How many problems have you all had?
Thanks

I've never had the scratched game problem unless the game was actually scratched. My old roommate had the red rings of death once, but other than that 360 has worked well for me(knock on wood). One of my front USB ports is messed up also, but that is my fault.

a defective dvd drive is less common than the RRoD. Personally I had my last 360 for 2 years and it never had a hiccup, except for being stolen... I've pre-ordered the new modern warfare 2 Xbox bundle so hopefully I will have the same luck less the the stolen part with this one. I have one buddy that is on his 6th xbox360, he was a day 1 owner though. so he went through more in the first year or 2 than he has now. the chips are better so you are finding that the RRoDs are less common. my other friends all have had 1 xbox360 die of RRoD, none had purchased theirs after 2007 though. most were older models that died. btw, as far as the disc drive I tend to install the games that I play more. I installed my Call of Duty games and a few others. it cuts down on DVD drive use and on load times. however DO NOT install Halo3 on your HDD, it is one of the few games to run much worse when installed. it runs better from DVD.

i'd look at picking one up used from somewhere as opposed to buying it new. even the 20gb one would help. if you haven't needed it yet, like for the downloadable maps for CoD then it is really up to you. I haven't seen how much room the new Modern Warfare2 is gonna require but I know there is more customization in the MP modes.

For what it is worth, you can "defrag" the xbox hard drive if you hold down the A button from when you first turn the console on to when the game is fully loaded up to the start screen.
I learned about this trick when having the same load problem with "Oblivion". I don't know if this will help, but it can't hurt to try it. |

I have a PS3 and tried to get into the 360 gaming since more of my friends have an Xbox. Well, I had bought one through Newegg and it crapped out on me, giving me the message that this game is unplayable because it may be scratched, dirty, blah blah blah... I gave them a call and told them I had bought a brand new console and a brand new game and this is unacceptable. Being that Newegg has some awesome customer service, they said they would ship me a brand new 360 and pay for the other to be shipped back. I had got the new one, started it up and the same exact thing happened, gave them another call and said I would like my money back, and they refunded me in full with no shipping charges. I have had Playstation 1, 2 and 3 and ALL have worked flawlessly. They all still work as if they were right out of the box to this day. I will not go with a Microsoft gaming unit again! I gave them a fair chance but they have left a bad taste in my mouth. I had even called Xbox's customer support line and they did not help me at all and were the rudest people I have ever talked to. They did screw me out of $50 for the dumba$$ Live Gold card crap.
I guess I will be sticking with Sony from now on. /rant |
