Infinity Ward has decided at this time to nix dedicated servers for the newest release for the COD series.

This considered the same thing as a host? I know that MW2 is said to utilize a host migrating feature like the Halo (and others, I'm sure) games so when a host quits the game doesn't end. Thank God!

Whoever is hosting has a huge advantage because of no lag.

You get over it, bro!

On the PC we can have gaming communities, much like we have here on this very forum.

Clan servers, etc.

Where people can common the same server 24/7, because its dedicated, and keep playing with the same crew.

Once dedicated servers are taken, there is no more community, except people you already know going into the game with you.

Which severely limits socialization > gaming community > competition/more fun.

while I don't mind it on the xbox 360, I do find it strange that they would do that on the PC.

I did not play MW on PC, actually haven't played games on PC since BF2 days. but I used to be in a gaming clan and we hosted dedicated servers for Counter-strike in the beta days, day of defeat, Infiltration and then BF2. I did like this because you could have a community.

we linked the administration to our mIRC channel so we could monitor and communicate with the servers.

It, to me, negatively impacts gaming leagues that don't host LAN parties.

that being said, it doesn't impact me so sorry for you PC ppl.

You can do 9v9 on a console. It creates a level playing field for all and curbs most of the cheating.

quite honestly though that is for a console. you will never curb the amount of cheating that goes on with a PC. even then the consoles do have cheats as well. they just aren't as obvious.
