I always liked having the keyboard+mouse combo, you could script more commands into simple button presses... you could have pretty much total control and fine tuned precision with the mouse. but the reality is as the PC/MAC wars have really exploded over the last 5-7 years it has made gaming jump forward each year so danged quickly. which means that games like Armed Assualt was a beast on PCs, you basically had to future proof your PC to play the a game of 'today'. the only problem was a year later, your PC is still considered 'top-end' but it can't handle ArmA2 until you go dual video card, 4 GB of ram... I still have a few PC games but now I've switched to almost all types of games on a console. so yeah I'll pay 10$ extra for the console version cause I know that CoD4,5,6 and most likely 7 will all work flawlessly on it. while a PC'er will have to upgrade some part of thier PC within that time for well over 10$

Also, graphics cards are getting very cheap. I put a nVidia 9800 GT in mine for about 100 bucks and it'll be good for years. You can get 1gb cards for in the 50 dollar range now. And you're not going to be upgrading every game.

its just with the Consoles making a pretty dang good effort it becomes easier and cheaper to play a game like CoD on a console. even with what you listed above you have listed from 50-130$ worth of 'necessary' upgrades. compared to the 10$ upcharge on console games. in CoD for example. its 30$ extra to buy CoD4,5 & 6 when it comes out on the 360 rather than PC. and also you have less chance of hacks on a console. yes there still are exploits but not as bad as a PC. my buddy is a member of a hack site for BF2 and CoD4, it is shocking to see some of the hacks and how intracate they are on the PC. and how the mastermind is pretty much running a business by outsmarting Punkbuster and the likes.

There is a lot more to performance of a video card, then just how much ram it has. There's bit rates, graphics clocking, onboard processor clocking, texture fill rates, memory interface widths, memory bandwidths and so on and so forth. And if you're pc is relatively new, and you just want to upgrade your video card or memory that all works well for a period of time. But, the CPU can bottleneck your video card quite severely. Everything works hand in hand. Like you said ram is very important as well. 2GB is mediocre at best. Dependent on your OS of course. If you are running vista, you can expect a GB of that being used purely by the OS and the background processes. And that's before you even fire the game up. But I digress... When you play on a console, hardware wise, the competition is purely a skill driven win. With PC's there are many different things that can give your opponent the upper hand. Again, for the casual gamer it won't be that big of a deal. But, if you are competitive things can get expensive real quick... Money wise, the console is the way to go. You will save a LOT over the years. I have been into competitive gaming for about 5 years now. And I have spent several thousand dollars staying up to date on hardware. But, I have played enough to make it cost effective on a dollar per hour ratio over that period of time. Being recently married. I don't have the coins or the time to play to competitively anymore. I can't afford to get the latest gear that's out. But, I have a mediocre gaming rig that gets me by. An Intel core i7, nVidia GTX 260, and 6GB of ram. That I built at the end of last year. It doesn't run COD5 up to my expectations. It's no slouch by any means. But, after having all the top of the line gear for a few years. You notice every little bit of performance lag. I expect it to be marginal, at best, for COD:MW2. And that my friends is why I am happy the wife and I picked up a PS3 recently. I will just buy the game for both systems and play whatever it preforms best on. Which will probably be the PS3. And if that's the case. I will always be looking over my shoulder at my two old friends: Keyboard and mouse.

a good comp is so cheap nowadays $600-700 compared to long ago. I used to be the upgrade every 1.5 year guy until dual cores and strong vid cards came out. Hardware is outpacing software for the past 4 years, I still have the same comp for 3.5 years and it doesnt look like I need to upgrade anytime soon either.

It is now patched, but if it's been done once, it will be done again. You are correct that this is more likely to happen on a PC, but it'll catch up to consoles soon enough.

pre-ordered prestige edition. If I don't like what comes with it, I'll just throw all the accessories up on ebay, thats what I did when I bought GTA IV. Made almost what I spend entirely too.
And somewhere I was reading making these big accessory packs like this is their way to get more money out of the game, because Microsoft wont allow them to sell the game at a higher price, that they know all the fans would willingly pay, so they just add in some neat stuff to get more money out of it.
