Can anybody give me information about Registered Nurses in the service.

Army?

Navy?

Marines?
I am currently in school for Nursing. What kind of deployments do the medical personel have? Are Nurses (RN's) considered corpmans?

I am looking to serve but would like to serve in a hospital or red cross tent.

No nurses in the Marine Corps. You'd have to join the Navy, and then be assigned to the Marine Corps.

I think you should probably talk to recruiters about the various options available.

I'm sure the Navy would let you be a Corpsman if you wanted to be, but as an RN you could probably be a regular nurse, and that would mean being an officer, which brings better pay, living conditions, and benefits.

My daughter has been talking to the Army about being a nurse. All the services need medical personnel.

That is what I was thinging. But was looking for some information about the Rn's in the service that the recruiter will not tell me.

Deployments and other none glamourous parts of the job.

I know the Army has special RN recruiters. Call a local office and get the number to their Battalion. The RN recruiter will work at BN level.

biased for the latter of course.

You would receive an officer's
commission. I believe that you
could hold out for at least a 1st
Lt., which would be O-2 in the

The reason the recruiter will not talk to you about being a military RN is that their job is warm bodies in the enlisted ranks. You need to talk to a Officer Recruiter. And as already said one that specializes in recruiting medical people.

In the Army we have a recruiting detachment called AMEDD that recruits only MD's, RN's, DDS's and etc. Those are the guys you should call. You can call 1800-USA-ARMY and they will help you. Here is a very useful link you will find a lot of info and click on jobs to find a recruiter.

There are specific recruiting programs (and recruiters, beyond just the OSO/OPO guys) for medical personnel. You won't be able to "hold out" for O-2. At least for the Navy, you'll be commissioned as an O-1, just like everyone else (doctors/dentists/lawyers excepted). No, you're not a Corpsman. Corpsman are enlisted personnel; if you have a nursing degree, you'll be an officer. Initial detailing is very likely to be at a hospital; however, you'll just as likely be pulled from that hospital within the first 3 years to spend 6-12 months in Iraq/Afghanistan. Get in contact with an officer recruiter and let them know your interests. They'll hook you up with the appropriate individual for the medical programs that can explain all of your questions.

My wife is a Navy nurse. Just starting out you will in one of the "big 3 Hosp." Va. Ma.or San Digo, Ca. some new people go to Gitmo Cuba.
