Angry What a Disgrace!!...

Fellow veterans and comrades in
arms, here is the most disgracefull
happening that I have read.

It is an exact email which I received,
via a veterans network here in KY.

For those whom are not from KY, the
cemetary which is mentioned is in Jefferson
County (Louisville, KY).

If it has happened in one place, it no doubt
has happened elsewhere.

I do plan on attending the memorial.

Ed

Steve, The cemetery contacted me today and advised that they have a total of 23 Veterans buried in this indigent Cemetery. The majority of the Veterans are Viet Nam Veterans. I will meet them Monday and stake the unmarked graves and obtain DD 214 forms and Death Certificates. This is really a disgrace. I only found 4 of the eight Nam Vets head stones as reported to me. I will do something about this starting today.I firmed up a date for June 1st at 1400 Hours
2 PM Sunday to have the Memorial service at the River Valley Cemetery on Cane Run Road at Lower Hunter next to the LG&E plant. I would like for the PGR to hold a Flag at every grave of the Veterans. They are at various locations in this Potter Field. Some have home made wooden head stones.I will have posters made up and hand deliver to every VFW,DAV,AMERICAN LEGION,AMVETS in Jefferson County. I sent Greg the information and asked him to try to get the PGR to attend in Force to send a strong message to this City that this is a disgrace.
I also found 98 Cremains in a storage facility that I will have to do allot of work with identification. I'm on the hunt. This has brought new life into my body.
Hope to see you at this Ceremony for these indigent Veterans that were buried without honor. I want to read ever name and tell something about what I find out about them. I plan on getting the white doves myself. The National MIAP are coming in town for the Memorial. They are PGR folks from Kansas Mo.

Please help to get the word out that this Memorial is June 1st 08 at the Cemetery.

Thanks,

Walt Oster

Yes, that is disgusting. The VA will pay for a headstone. There is no good reason not to have their graves marked!

In my little hometown cemetery there are many Viet Vets. However, there is only one who was killed in combat in Vietnam. For some reason, the city could care less about maintaining his grave properly. He has a flat marble marker, which they make no effort what-so-ever to keep grass clippings from covering up. (it's possible that is what has happened to the markers for the Vets in your post)

I've bitched to everyone I can, and it's still the same. I guess he no longer has family in town, because I have to go over there a couple times a year to uncover his grave marker, and put flags and memorial wreaths at his grave stone on Memorial Day, and Veteran's day.... It really breaks my heart to see this Soldier, who was awarded a Bronze Star for heroism in Vietnam, be so disrespected and forgotten!

As a nation we have always done a lousey job of respecting veterans. I hate to say it, but if the "D's" are successful in November, situations like this one will pale in comparison to what will become the norm.

As a Vietnam Vet myself, stories like this really hit home.
