Cannibul, this former 2Lt.'s father was a First Sgt. and raised me right so when I got my first platton I told my Platton Sgt. he was running the outfit and to please keep me alive. As you can see he did a great job! He did have to tackle me the first time a sniper sent those rounds snapping past my head because the "dumb" Lt. did not recognize what that sound was. Maybe that is why 0-1s are paired with a senior NCO!

Exactly. It's to keep them alive long enough so they can learn to be good officers.
