When friends deploy
Im kinda struggling right now because im in the Airforce and my best friend is Army Reserve. He just left on deployment to kuwait for a year, which means he'll be deployed when i go home this summer on leave. And a bunch more of my Security Forces friends just went out on a deployment to Camp Bucca. I should be deployin in september and while im gone a real good friend of mine will be PCSing to Germany. I just cant seem to get used to all of my friends leaving and stuff.

Yeah, it's often much harder on those back here than it is on the deployed. I spent most of 2005 in Iraq, and yeah, it was tough, but I didn't see how tough it was on my wife. Now, due to my position and the people I am around, I'm having a tough time. I'm here while many of my friends are in harms way, and I'd rather be there with them. In the last 2 weeks, one of my friends has lost 4 Marines from his battalion due to enemy contact. His wife showed me a picture of him kneeling in front of 2 pairs of boots with rifle, helmet, and dog tags. I nearly lost it right then. I pray several times a day that I won't get another call from HQMC telling me that I have to go deliver a PCR to another Marine's parents. It is the worst experience I have ever had. Hang in there, though. You'll meet new friends everywhere you go.

The longer you spend in, the more it happens....but also the more places that you go that you already know somebody (or they PCS to you). Case in point....haven't seen a bunch of guys since we deployed in 2000 together. We've all been everywhere since then. Funny thing is we'll all be meeting up in Anbar this fall.

I have many Marine buddies in country right now. A couple just got back but I still have some infantry platoon commander buddies still over there. What gets to me is that I'm not there with them. While they are doing what they do best, I'm stateside in the training command. I want to be the angel of death above them watching their back from the sky but damn I still have over 2 years of training before I get into the fleet and deploy.

It's sad to say, but that's the way life is.
There are people that mean a whole lot to you that you may never see again. Some of them move for a job, some move with their family, some die. You never know when a goodbye is forever. The only thing that's certain is that we are in their memories as they are in ours. Make sure they remember you in a good way.
