Read "Flags of Our Fathers." You may understand when you read the explanation of why John Bradley hated the Japanese.

I sure would like to know that guy. I would want his autograph. " Yea Right " I had a buddy go to the sniper school at Ft. Benning, Ga. He talks about 600, 800 yard shots. I have heard about a sniper in vietnam using a 50 cal for 1100 meter shot, but I donn't know if it true or not.

Maybe one day some Special Ops guy will snipe Osama from 4 miles. That would be cool!

That was the legendary Marine GySgt Carlos Hathcock. I think someone else mentioned Gunny Hathcock, earlier in the thread.

Hathcock had a bounty on his head placed by the NVA. However, he turned the tables on several NVA snipers sent to track and kill him. Killing one such NVA sniper by shooting him through his scope as the commie was drawing a bead on Hathcock.

Several war movies with snipers, or sniper themes have used Hathcock's exploits in Vietnam for material. "Saving Private Ryan" being the most notable.

Gunny Hathcock was severely burned while riding on an armored personnel carrier that hit a mine (now called an IED). Enemy snipers never got him.

Take a look at that chart again and take a dose of reality. You would have a bullet traveling over 2500 meters above the line of sight. You have a 42 second flight time. Sure the bullet will travel 4 miles. But in no way could you consider it an aimed shot of any type.

Sorry. But it was an anti-tank mine. Not an IED. If you don't know the difference then head back to school.

Not to be picky. But 2286 yards.

Hey I'm not saying it would be easy. It COULD be done. That's all I said.

The first computers were designed to calculate exactly this kind of thing. It's just physics and mathmatics. And a little bit of luck and error correction.

I run into these types of people all of the time. If there is a Sh#$Bird, liar anywhere around me they are compelled to track me down and tell all sorts of "high-speed, low drag" things. I don't even argue with them anymore, I just turn around and walk away.
