Reading about that Corpsman. How the heck did the Navy let it get so far that he's being given his Bronze Star in an awards ceremony?

I've never met a SEAL (that I know of), but I do have a cousin that was a Ranger Sniper in the first gulf war (I've never heard him say anything about it, but his mom used to let the family know when he was being deployed).

LiveLeak.com - M82 50 cal rifle experiment.
Have you watched these .50 cal. videos? There is a whole list of these. This is one of my favorite: LiveLeak.com - The Ultimate American Sniper Rifle These things are really incredible but I think that even at a 7,000 yd. range, there's a bit of luck in the accuracy. The trained sniper can compensate for some wind, but let's be real; there are a lot of changes in direction over a mile's distance. This post is protected speech pursuant to the "inalienable rights" of all men, and the First (and Second) Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. In God we trust.

The most accurate pairing is 2338 meters for 16 3/8 of an inch three round group put together by a .408 cheytac sniper rifle by the way.

Folks,
I never implied that the kid made the shot. The trajectory graph was simply posted, as the caption says, as "Food for Thought".

BS
I do not buy all this PTSD crap. I went through the same stuff everyone else did, maybe more. I don’t have PTSD or I am crazy too and I'm not aware of it. It's just an excuse, is it just to get more money from the VA? ……or What???? Then you have the guys that say well they had it so rough they don't want to talk about, like they are some hero suffering in silence. Or is it that they don't have any "there I was" real stories, so they fake it. Give me a break !!!! They just want the money.
I lied about my pain and even with an injured back and neck pain (wounded) I stayed in the Army and flew helicopters in special operations covert units and a dust off unit and was involved in situations that were more endangering and had more emotional trauma associations then all of my time in VN as an Infantryman. Sorry if I don't have more compassion for ya, maybe some of them should have joined the girl scouts. I visited my Mother's church for Easter and there was a man she introduced to my wife and I. My mom said this is my son Craig, he was in Viet Nam. He then said he had three tours, as a clerk and he got 60% disability. I smiled. Then just to make conversation I said "What do you do now?" He smiled an said I am a disabled vet. Now this guy looked and acted and walked absolutely fine. So I said" Me too, but I didn't make a career of it." …. He looked down and walked away. Some guys are just so lame they have to claim they are something they are not. If they are so ashamed of never have done anything, don't lie about it, just do it. And if you survive then you can talk about it. I did and I do.

I also have never been in the military, but have met some very special servicemen. I actually have the honor of currently knowing 1 ex navy seal, and one 1 special forces guy (retired at E9 this year) that trained with SEALS and at one time recovered aircraft off the bottom of the ocean.I have never heard either of them say much about combat. The friend (who is my father's friend and my Godfather) has told me some about training and very vaguely about being in some crazy situations, but not much else. As others have said, most of these guys do NOT talk about what they've been through or done.
I know 2 gentlemen that were/are snipers. One was a marine sniper that I grew up with, the other was in the Army and was discharged, but called back from inactive duty. One of them will talk to me about some of it, but still very very vaguely and usually only after he's been drinking. He never talks about numbers, never brags about it, nothing. It makes me sad and extremely angry when people try to act like they were in the military and some special forces whatever when they in fact are not. It's so disrespectful to the men that have served. For those of you that have served or are serving, thank you. Last edited by Tomcat088 : 04-04-2008 at 01:21 PM. Reason: spelling |

PTSD, Snipers, and Wannabe's
Just my two cents, but I wouldn't get into the business of judging people about PTSD. Everyone is different, and stress affects each of us differently. You can't tell from an MOS whether or not a person could have it. I served in combat and don't have any text book symptoms of PTSD. But, I am a changed man in many ways, good and bad. 'Nuff said about that.
One thing I learned about combat, and about people who have served in combat: I don't want to spend any time in a hole with a guy who doesn't have a healthy respect for human life. All these idiots who talk all the crap about how many "confirmed kills" they got, or how far that head shot was make me sick. I won't go as far as to say that the ones who brag are the ones who are lying, but I will say that I have no interest in listening to them-or being in the same room with them. Taking another man's life is not to be taken lightly, even if the bastard needs killing. Finally, I have no problem confronting wannabe heros. I had knucklehead start the "I was a Navy Seal" story once and shut him down in a milli-second. My father was a SF medic in VN, and I have too much respect for SO's to allow a slug to disparage the profession in that way.
