In the Army a Staff Sargent is an E-6,

an E-5 is a (Buck) Sargent.

And it normally takes a lot more than 5 years to make E-5 in the Corps.

Not anymore I picked up E-5 just under 5 years. Now getting into the SNCO ranks is a little harder.

I am equal with your Sgt. I also picked up E-5 just around my 5 year mark, but to progress beyond that is a lot tougher.

I too was in the Air Force! I was stationed at Hill AFB also! I was there from 1996-2000. Had some fun times.
