zarcher- a few answers to your questions....I started as a surface warfare officer and wound up becoming a Seabee, then further specializing as a Seabee diver. The first thing you need to do is visit your local recruiters and ask to see an officer recruiter. They can start feeding you info on various possibilities. Don't make a decision until you've gotten information from all services and made an objective decision. You need to realize that any obligation you make within the military has a 8 year commitment with it; at a minimum, it is 4 years of active service and 4 years of reserve service (not necessarily as a drilling reservist, but as IRR). Next, certain career fields carry an additional obligation (aviation among them).

As for this ship side, if you chose Navy, you wouldn't be assigned to a carrier as your first tour. "Smaller" ships (cruisers, destroyers, frigates, gators) move a little bit in rough seas, but it isn't too bad. Even for folks that have a tough time in the beginning, they rapidly adjust and get their "sea legs". I'm sure NavyFC can attest to cruisers being a bit "animated" in their motion when they're taking beam seas/winds as compared to a gucci destroyer (I'm a Spruance guy, so I look down on gucci's). Flat bottom gators can do the same.

What is/will your degree be in? Do you hope to use your degree in some fashion in the service? That can be a big driver as to your choice of service and then your career field. Again, you need to talk to an officer recruiter. You've cast a very wide net (a very good idea), but quite honestly, I really don't think there's enough "knowledge" on this board for you to make the decision; that information will come from an officer recruiter and you will need to be very objective (pro/con lists) in your choice. Remember, it's taking up a good chunk of your early adult years (each service has a unique and distinct culture/flavor), so you need to do it right. PM me for more info, if desired.

People can give you better answers if you tell us what you want out of the military (or the Air Force). Otherwise, it's just going to be a bunch of people posting "Army!"..... "Marines!"..... "Boy Scout Troop 482!".....

Give us an idea of what you are trying to accomplish by enlisting.

BTW, what part of Cinci are you in? That's my hometown.

I haven't been on cruisers but much prefer an AEGIS (I believe you call it gucci?) destroyers. Never heard it like that before. That is a good one.

Become a rescue swimmer in the Coast Gaurd! I have a friend that's gonna do it. I was contemplating it once, but then I remembered that I suck at swimming.

United States Marine Corps, because with any other choice you will always wonder why you didn't.

Thumbs up

Go Army Aviation. Faster promotions, flight pay, hazardous duty pay.
Rub elbows with Spec ops and special forces (SEALS, DELTA Force, SF, Rangers etc). Respect. Good quality of commrades and commanders.
Best aviation element is 160th SOAR. Be a warrant officer or ommissioned. Warrants only fly and not much else.

Check it out.

Northern around Middletown,Oh.

I'm looking for a career, be it in the service or out of the service.
The money isn't that important, as long as I have health care and food on the table for the wife and kids I'm happy. I really don't want to look back and say I should of served. At least four and out to pay for my schooling.
If I really like it, I will try to make it twenty and out. If not it was a good experience. Got to see a lot and do a lot.
