Natureboypkr, I am with you on that. I guess sometimes pride clouds ones vision, and it is good to see that so many service members still have a strong pride in their service. Natureboy... remember it is you, me and those serving that made America free and continue to keep it that way, so those sign totting libs have a place to stay. I sleep better at night knowing they depend on me getting up in the morning and putting on my uniform.

Maybe it could just be you and the people you know. Then again you may be right, and I really don't care because I going to continue to serve this country just like you and that's all what matters.

In defense of the Marine Corps, one could point out such places as Korea, Pusan and Inchon. One could also say that the initial commitment of combat forces (not advisory forces) to Vietnam were Marines from Okinawa. Even further, one could point out that Marines landed in Somalia before anyone else (aside from hydrographic recon by some tadpoles), then withdrawn and replaced by regular Army forces once the food supply situation had stabilized. We can go another step and discuss the amphib demonstration in 1991 that tied up 11 divisions of Saddam's forces, enabling I MEF to roll into Kuwait and the large armor thrust behind most of Saddam's guys. To be sure, we should point out that one enabled the other and vice versa (with a liberal dose of air supremacy and 40+ days of DAS/Interdiction missions). Sure the CFLCC is Army....always has and always will. Same as the JFACC/CFACC is AF. But that can be taken a step further and look at the COCOM/JS billets and who holds them. Surprisingly, the maritime components hold a disproportionate share, including billets that are traditionally from AF/Army. What's my point? #1, make sure your history is correct. #2, each organization has its strengths and weaknesses. Since 1775, the Marine Corps has been saying "Every Marine a Rifleman"; that attention on combat skills by decidedly non-combat MOS's for other services has only been of late. Is the Marine Corps the same as a SMU? Of course not and they never put themselves up as being one. But they are also far from being on the same playing field as Army infantry (again, I'm not trying to ruffle feathers). I've spent my time with Army units, Navy units and Marine units. I've gotten a pretty good taste, operationally, of all 3 (before I became a diver, I was in the habit of putting warheads on foreheads). My opinions shall remain private, but I certainly understand where their pride comes from (and it's not misplaced). That said, institutional rivalry is good. It keeps us honest and shows pride in our parent service. At the end of the day, we're all playing for the home team and are trying to obtain the same goals. I'll buy the guy next to me a beer, regardless of what color uniform he's wearing....and for anyone else that's carried a rifle and stood the watch, be it for 4 years or 24 years. Hooyah. |

"Today... is Christmas! There will be a magic show at zero-nine-thirty! Chaplain Charlie will tell you about how the free world will conquer Communism with the aid of God and a few marines! God has a hard-on for marines because we kill everything we see! He plays His games, we play ours! To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep heaven packed with fresh souls! God was here before the Marine Corps! So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps! Do you ladies understand?" Well, damn! If God don't like us, then who gives a crap what the Army thinks!

You will probably find that most Marines could give a rat's ass if they are liked or disliked. I could care less if some Navy, Airforce or Army member didn't like me. It isn't about being liked or popular, its about being tactically proficient at our jobs and completing the mission.
I have many friends from all the different branches and we all serve a purpose in the bigger scheme of manuver. However, only the Marine Corps has that 1-2-3 combo....the MAGTF!

Force Recon
Heck any Recon or Force Recon Marine looks down on all other military branches even other Marine corps units. We went by a different code and lived a total different way of life. We were trained better, had way better disciplin. We were the best of the best. Now in all honesty, no one comes close to the Seal teams. They are the best of the best. Well, of course alot of them were Marine recon before coming to the teams.
