I was a medic for 6 years, was in Iraq for 15 months. What youre talking about is part of the Geneva convention, and no they could care less. If anything they try to target the red crosses on the side of the HMMV ambulances.

i dont know about the Army but i have been a Navy Fleet Marine Force corpsman(medic) for 10 yeras and have been in Iraq 3 times. The people there dont care what your job is or who you are. We carried a 9mm and a M-16/M-4 and cleared building with everyone else. I dont wear the cross on my head or arm and the ambulances have a cross on the side (sometimes). I still managaed to get shot and hit a couple times and i have had quit a few of my fellow corpsman get hurt or killed over there so to answer your question yes we are targets.
