im surprised that the change is already mandatory. The new 'sage' green boots & ABUs arent fully stocked enough for everyone to get everything but theyre not really mandatory yet either.

I fell into that catagory. I'd wear blue coveralls and black steel-toes while PMCS'ing my Amtrac, then they'd expect me to change over to cammies to go get a bag nasty at the chow hall. wtf? You have no idea how often I'd get yelled at by some desk idiot. The annoying part was that just about every month the policy would change.

I miss my amtrac.

The Marine Corps has been using the digitals and suede type boots for longer than the Air Force and there has been plenty of time for most to switch over especially when the Marine Corps isn't paying for the damn things

Since they don't foot the bill they expect you to just cover it.

Edit-AK-We are wingers and probably more than 80 percent of the base wears coveralls at work everyday. We are allowed to wear coveralls in the Chowhall but we still have to wear the brown boots even if we haven't been issued the brown safety boots and only have black safety boots

Sounds like the CS hasn't changed much since the 60's.

An update. I have arrived in Grand Forks. It is currently -22 F with a -52 wind chill. Also do any of you active duty guys have the gortex ABU jackets for sale at your BX? Or maybe know where to get them? I have lots of ABU tops and bottoms here in the AAFES. I would be willing to ship some to anyone who needs them. You will have to tell me sizes. It may not be that flexible because of the two different shades, a more green shade and more tan shade.

I still have not messed with the ABU gortex jacket yet...or hell I havn't even bought any ABUs yet. Recently our base passed policy allowing us to wear woodland gortex or field jacket over the ABU. There still has been shortage of everything for ABUs.

Sounds like what we do. We can still wear the old style woodland Gore-Tex and most of my issue gear is still in the old woodland pattern.
