welcome to CE

It's the best squadron in the AF.

The ROTC cadre didn't to a thing for me other than losing all my paperwork 1 month before my commissioning...then giving me a surprise bill for all my "issued" uniform items

I'll shoot you an email for more specifics on CE CGO stuff

Dude, live off post. You didn't mention your family situation, but trust me, a single man does NOT want to live on post. Buy a house and start putting that BAH to work on building some equity. Use a VA loan since you probably lack the cash for a down payment. (This is confusing crap--talk to the family support center for guidance on getting hooked up with experts.)

I think you've pretty much got the answers on contacting your unit. Call the base operator if you can't get anyone else (it's usually whatever the base prefix is, followed by 1110. So if it's a 654 number, it'd be 654-1110) and ask for a number to the squadron orderly room. Get an AF Portal acct if you don't have one already, because you should be able to locate a POC through that.

I live off base and prefer it that way. I could get base housing but 1)I prefer to live out from underneath the jackboot of PMO and 2) I like to have my guns in MY house not in the Armory (depending on the base since you are an Officer you may be allowed to keep firearms in on base houseing though they will probably have to be registered).

Not to mention the extra money I get. If I lived on base I would loose nearly 800 dollars a month compared to the guys that live off base and get BAH.

We paid for everything also. My uniform issue cost me over 800 dollars including tailoring and stuff and I even got a receipt at the end of boot camp telling me how much I paid for haircuts while I was there.

Grand Forks is all right, I went to nursing school there and met my wife there. If you live in GF it is a bit of a drive to the base. Oh yea, buy some warm cloths! One great thing is you will be about 1 hour from some of the best walleye fishing in the country at Devils Lake just to the west of the base. I grew up about 120 miles from the base in the SE corner of ND.

My uniform allowance is something like 280 bucks a year(I'll check my LESes to make sure later today). To put that into perspective ONE pair of cammies costs over 70 dollars and we HAVE to maintain 4 pair.

All the other stuff is pretty expensive also. Boots 70 bucks a pair we need two pair of those. Corframs over 70bucks a pair we only need one of those.

For those of us in certain MOSes we need safety boots. Well the supply system still isn't caught up on the "new" style desert boot safety boots which means they are still issuing old black safety boots which aren't allowed to be worn outside the work areas. Which means every time we leave to go to chow or home we have to change boots. Which means most Marines opt to buy their own safety boots from the exchange. Price= about 130 dollars a pair on those.

The worst winter I spent in my life was at Blytheville AFB, Arkansas. Temps in the mid to upper 30's and drizzling rain 24/7. Cold & snow would have been better. I have to admit, though, that is was fun watching the locals try to drive the one time 2" of snow fell.
