Gerber says that thier LMF-II ASEK is currently being used by the military in theatre. have any of you come in contact with this knife and/or heard about it? how has it held up?
and thank you for doing the dirty work A Suggestion on a good all around survival knife would be appreciated! Last edited by ouija; 11-02-2006 at 05:24 PM. |

The Gerber knife you posted looks like a good one. But when it comes to knives they are just like guns but worse everyone has a personal preference. Most of the guys I know who are serving or have served could only take a folding knife. Lot of them bought benchmade auto axis knifes or SOG. They were issued bayonets for the fixed blade.

Probably a good knife. My experience w/ gerber is as follows:
-older knives are great -customer service is excellent -newer gerber's I've owned don't hold an edge for **** -overall great quality that is worth the price. |

so far i have a KA- BAR D2 extreme. it went thru an orange tossed up in the air and nota snag. the pieces landed about 6 inches apart, likely due to my novice sliceing being angled as opossed to straight thru. also cut my finger real nice when cleaning! justlike a razor. thats what i get for having cats jumping arund my legs and trying to clean at the samme time.
i have my eyes on a chris reeves and the KA -BAR kukuri machete and warthog for camping. but immiediatly is a auto folder. nice thing about arizona, auto's are just fine. just cant go out of state with it! |

Gerbers are not too popular in theater,,,too cheap and don't last. CRKT folding knives, Camillus tactical, and Benchmade folders are most common amongst Soldiers. And Coldsteel knives.

I vote for Cold Steel SRK. I have had mine for several years. Actually, I have two.

You cant go wrong with a SOG or a Benchmade. I have a buddy who is in the Air National Guard in Wisconsin. He uses a Benchmade with a Drop Point style blade, partially serrated, and is full auto opening. Nice knife, but not legal for pocket carry in Wisconsin because it is full auto.
I also have a Benchmade and love it, but they tend to be a bit on the pricey side. My everday pocket knife, and the knife I carry on duty are both SOG's. They are SOG Flash 2's, which are drop point style, partially serrated, and is spring assist opening (helps keep it legal is states where switchblades are not legal). Also check into the SOG Trident, it has a great feel and balance too it, plus it also has a little cutout in the handle big enough to use for cutting rigging, seatbelts, etc, without having to open the blade. If you are looking for a fixed blade knife, SOG and Benchmade both make damn good ones. Just make sure that you get something that is serrated. http://www.streichers.com they always have a lot of good knifes, and good prices. |
