Yeppers, you can "buy" medals
Quote:
However, there are medals and decorations awarded to American military personel by other countries. Those medals are not replaced by our government. I had my original medals from Vietnam stolen about twenty years ago. I went through the process to get them replaced via filing the forms, and my DD-214 with the records office in St. Louis. After about a two year wait, I recieved a new DD-214, the medals and ribbons I had been awarded by the U.S. government, and a note that said the medals and ribbons awarded by the Republic Of Vietnam (which doesn't exist anymore), would have to be purchased. They also suggested I purchase them from Medals Of America. I later purchased several sets of ribbons and medals from Medals of America, for wear on special occasions, and for display. Remember this: It's a Federal Offense to wear ribbons and medals for heroism, or valor in combat, if you were not awarded them!
