2nd amendment and homeland security
I was sitting round the ol post last nite washing down a couple of cold ones with the fellas. The conversation started with hurricanes, one of our favorite subjects in this neck of the woods, and how each secures and protects their home during and after a storm. Of course, the subject of guns came up as a result, and each of us went into a description of our personal arsenal. All of us agreed that after a storm our favorite pieces get locked and loaded and kept close at hand. A few stories were told about unsavory turds seen cruising our neighborhoods after Wilma and beating a hasty retreat when they heard the sound of a racked shotgun or the sight of a holstered pistol.
It was mentioned that it was nice that we had the second amendment that gave us the means to protect ourselves and our families. We all agreed that the words "shall not be infrindged" was pretty much self explanatory and interpretations made otherwise was just BS. Billy the Marine put it in prospective for me. "I always think of the movie, Red Dawn, where the commies invaded the country and the people fought back with whatever weapons they had". "Don't you think that if something like that ever happened that every vet in this post would be on the beach with their guns?" We all chimed in with a big, "hell yeah!"
In think that's the militia our forefathers were talking about. Ordinary citizens, not just the military, using the arms they bare to defend their homeland. A fitting part of homeland security in my book.
The oath still holds true for this vet, "protect and defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic".
