Hospitals are designed like laborynths. Its a friggin maze in there. How the heck do you keep track of where and how to get the hell out? On top of that its chaotic as hell. There are phones ringing, nurses talking, other vets talking carts going by, anouncmments on the intercom (1mc) doors opening and closing, other vets arguing with the staff.... etc.
I would live in walmart before choosing to go to the VA hosp.

The first time I came back, I couldnt go to Wal-Mart for at least 6 months. First time I tried, I walked in and turned right back around. I was with my mom at the time and she didn`t understand what just happened. I had to explain to her that I didnt like crowds.

Not military, but being in the shower is the worst for me. Second would be in large crowds.

November is the 25th anniversary of my PTSD event. This time of year is even harder than usual. I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said.

I was never in the military but my doctor says I have this condition ?? I really don't feel comfortable anywhere outside of my motel room , but I can't imagine what you vets go though . I don't think I have any post stress but my doc diagnosed me with it . I get feelings like my body goes back in time to some pretty ugly places I've been and the episodes last 30 mins and I have them all day. I really just think its my ADHD and panic disorder combined , and my stupid doctor just try's to tell me I have all this post stress stuff I dont buy it for a second. I've never been to Iraq and been at war ... you guys are heroes
I salute all you guys !!

Driving sucks.
Long barren roads.
Bumper to bumper traffic is by far the worst though.
Crowds
Hospitals
Back seats of cars
Helicopters freak me out.
Anyone else discovered a strange...uncomfortableness...in the dark

I don't have PTSD, but being deployed has made me a bit harsher and less tolerant of people that feel the need to be stupid or argumentative about stupid stuff. I'm also more attentive to people around me.
My wife also says I'm more assertive about things now and tend to order people about rather than ask nicely. Apparently, if I see something being done poorly, I'll just step in and "correct the problem" or just take it over and do it myself.
When I first got back I was still very alert and if there was a loud noise at night I'd wake instantly and be ready for action. But that settled down in a month or two. Because of that, my wife was very concerned about PTSD at first. Now she's not and all is good. I'm sure that some shrink would probably diagnose my insomnia as PTSD, but I had that before deploying or even joining the military.
I'd like to say that those with PTSD have my sympathy and support. If you haven't done so yet, try joining the VFW or American Legion. You can hang out and talk about things with verterans like yourself and get some of that stuff off your chest in a very non-judgemental place.

I know when I got back, I had some issues that no one could or tried to figure out. I think I have them under wraps now but I can't stand to have my back to the crowd in a restaurant. I am always scanning the "crowd" around me everywhere we go.

I don't think you need to have PTSD to not like having your back to busy doors, urinals, large crowds, etc. I always just thought that was normal.
ETA: Nobody likes traffic, or hospitals, public transportation, etc...Again, normal. If you let it control your life and you are NEVER able to relax is when I think it becomes a real problem.

I have driven home a few times before even getting out of the truck because of the large line of cars turning into walmart's lot. It's not worth the frustration sometimes. I know for a fact I share this feeling with tons of "normal" people who simply refuse to go to walmart altogether. You all are describing normal feelings.
