U.S. Marine to Receive Navy Cross

Quote:
A Southern California based Marine found himself face-to-face with two Taliban fighters in the heat of combat and lived to tell about it.
Now Sgt. Clifford Wooldridge will be presented with the Navy Cross the nation’s second highest award.
Quote:
When his mother heard about the award, she asked her son, then 22, what he had done in combat.
She told a Washington newspaper that Wooldridge told her, "Oh, just some stuff I did."

"Wooldridge used the fighter’s own machine gun to kill him with several blows to the head."

That has to put a smile on your face.

"Realizing his predicament against the 220-pound former football player, the Taliban fighter ..." pee'd himself

thank you Sgt. Wooldridge

i saw a guy get that award during my cousins's son's boot camp grad cery on Parris Island ~5 yrs ago. that dude was in a bad fire fight during the bad insurgent time frame, fallugiah maybe? he saved a good bit of his buds and went head on into the gun fire, if i recall correctly and did not retreat. the write up was impressive. i think his expert shooting is what put those BGs down too IIRC.

Quote:
A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune. "One Marine is better than ten taliban".

The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the dune whereupon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence.

The voice then calls out "One Marine is better than one hundred taliban". Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again silence.

The voice calls out again "One Marine is better than one thousand Taliban". The enraged Taliban Commander musters one thousand fighters and sends them across the dune. Cannon, rocket and machine gun fire ring out as a huge battle is fought. Then silence.

Eventually one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men, its a trap. There's actually two of them.
