Joining the Coast Guard

So after over a year I am in the final stage of getting accepted or not, medical waiver application was sent yesterday. It's make it or break it this time. I was disqualified from MEPS (last year Sept. '10) for "hypo-tension" which is BS, anyways my recruiter is awesome and called me back a couple months ago and got the process started (again). So all my medical history is on its way and now we can only hope for good news.

Question anyone accepted after being disqualified at MEPS for hypo-tension (low blood pressure), I'm trying to figure out my odds.

My recruiter had me do the online background check, I can only take that as a good sign. He sounds positive and hopeful as I am as well.

Any insight on the Coast Guard? I want to go in to ME (maritime enforcement (I know there is a long wait for it))

If you are well controlled you should be alright. Thanks for serving and IMHO you are joining the right crew. The Coasties are a well managed force. I wanted to join when I was younger, but life circumstances did not allow it. Best of luck!!!

Good luck, and as posted, thanks for your desire to enter the service! Hope they get the bugs worked out of your application and get you approved.

While I am not a vet, or active, many of my classmates and friends are active duty USCG and retired USCG. All of them have good feedback on their time in the service. They have a lot of demands on a limited budget and "staff" but the field guys do a great job out there. The beaurocrats... well, like anywhere, not so much. (I deal with their licensing and regulations on a regular basis and since those regs are drawn up by civilians and politicians with no clue, THAT gets to be a headache!!)

Again, good luck with everything!

Unfortunately your recruiter doesn't do anything but submit paper work. He has nothing to do with whether you get your waiver or not. Just keep hopes up that you do. I dont know how the process goes for getting a waiver. Did you actually get to go to a medical review board?

The Coast Guard will be an excellent choice for you. I hope that all goes well for your waiver. If you have any questions about ME feel free to ask I graduated in the 3rd class of ME "A" School. Be prepared to wait a while to get to go to school.

Whilst I was Air Force, I was DQ'd in '90 when I tried to enlist due to a heart condition (elevated heart rate) and had to go through a full battery of medical tests on the family dime which revealed a defective heart valve. and then my recruiter got it waived. So it can happen.
