Optics?

When a service member in the combat arms MOS is deployed are they issued optics?

Eotech, Aimpoint or what ever?

Depends on the service. Most Marines are issued Trijcon RCOs (USMC mod of the ACOG) It's a 4x power optic with a BDC reticle from 100 to 800m, the red chevron ( ^ ) and post cover the first 300m. I have not tried it out (never had the time when actually using it) but we were told by some contractors brought in to teach us that the horizontal line that marks the range are as wide as an average man's shoulders would be at that range. The optic also has the bindon aiming concept, meaning that you can shoot with both eyes open and still expect to hit what you're aiming at.

I will be Army.

So the USMC issues optics. Army should do the same, maybe not the same sight but something.

This maybe getting the cart in front of the horse. But I will most likely be deployed in the next 9-12 months, at least that is what my recruiters are saying.

If I need to get my own sights then I need to start saving for what I want.

You will be issued an optic, which ever one will be best suited for your needs. The army may not always give you everything you want, but you will always have what you need. And dont listen to recruiters. Honestly, not a single word.

We have Aimpoint M2's on our M16's. It's just a red dot, but if you are able to get it zeroed, it's all you will ever need. I don't have much experience with the ACOG(I'm Army), but I did play with a tri power that someone bought on their own and put it on the weapon.

Both my wife (23+ years) and my daughter (14+ years) are active duty Army. My daughter just returned from 16 months in Afganistan. She was issued an M4 with an aimpoint already attached. She is stationed at Ft. Bragg,NC. Not sure if different units may issue different optics depending on mission. I was AF Special Ops and we had our own budget and bought what was needed for the mission. Worked along side mostly SAS, some SEALS, but mostly SF guys and they were the same as us......mission requirements varied and there was a variety of different things used.
But from what I have seem mostly Aimpoints for the Army. If you are wanting to buy anything for an add-on I would give the thought of getting a 3x magnifier that mounts ahead of the Aimpoint. Again, it will depend on the mission. If you are out in the sand of course the 3X would be a great addition vs. House to House it could be a hinderance.

Keep your head down soldier!!!!

im army infantry and we have all types of optics depending on the weapon and the use. We use trijicon rcos, eotechs, and aimpoints on our m4s, along with other types of sights that arent available for civilian purchase.
