Looking around for a semi auto Thompson Machine Gun look alike of the old gangster years.

Nice! I just recently bought one myself and love shooting it. I bought mine brand new, an A1 Deluxe with violin case for $1100 then another $240 for the 50rnd drum. (gotta have the drum mag if you have a Tommy, ya know! or it just ain't the same) You can get the pistol version of the Tommy (no stock) with pistol grip but no front grip that comes with a 50rnd drum mag for about $1000 new.

Be prepared, even though it's a semi-auto, you WILL go through some ammo!

Good luck on your search!

Where did you buy yours. Sounds exactly like I want to buy. Violin Case, drum and all.

Bought mine from a local gun store in Independence, MO. It was the last one they had. Basically, $1000 for the rifle and since it was their last Tommy, they offered up the violin case at cost $69. I got the drum mag off gunbroker for $209 plus s/h.

Surprisingly accurate, more so than I expected it to be actually. It intuitively aims well from the hip and is equally as comfortable to shoot from the shoulder though it is on the heavy side. Fully loaded with 50rnds of 230gr ball ammo, it weighs in at a hefty 17-1/2 lbs. (mine being the steel receiver vs the aluminum one). I was easily able to walk an aluminum can up and over a 12' berm with 4 shots.

When I break it out at the range, it's a crowd gatherer too. Almost everyone that takes a closer look comments how they've always wanted one for themselves.

Super fun to shoot, totally impractical for much of anything. For every purpose you could come up with for a firearm, I can think of a much better brand/model/caliber than the Tommy. But that's just not the point of a Tommy gun either. For the same reason one has a weekend classic sports car. It's just not a daily driver but damn is it fun to take out once in awhile for the helluvit!

Given the hefty receiver & longer barrel, can it handle hotter loads than a handgun? Anyone reload for a Thompson?
