That sounds like a pretty good package! I agree with ArmyGuy45... Pics sell, and in the case of a low post count seller, partially alleave the concerns we commonly have regarding fraudulent postings (not that I am impuning that regarding you, brother!).
As far as price, seems like I'm finding the Scout and Socom-16 for around $1500 new, so I'd be hard pressed to be cashing out a 401K to buy one unless it was at LEAST 30% off of that price, considering the additional FFL transfer service fees, shipping, multiple risk factors, and all that mess. Above that price, my own inclination would be to go buy a new Socom-16 with the 4" shorter overall barrel, that sweet muzzle brake and the tritium front post. I see the Socom as having about $400 worth of desireable upgrades, all told, over the Scout, though you're walnut stock certainly calls to us old soldiers who had the pleasure to carry an M1A (or M24 in my case) into harms way! So, to summarize my mental meanderings and make an offer, I'd go $1100, shipped & insured FFL to FFL (after verifying that both you and your rifle actually do exist via the brick & morter FFL you'd be shipping from). To make it a little less financially painful and an easier shipping process, you could keep all the aftermarket accessories and ammo. I'd just need the rifle & factory supplied items (mag, manual, sling?, box). Anyone out there willing to do better for this lad?

My math goes like this: SOCOM-16 ($1550), minus muzzle brake (-$100), minus tritium post (-$75), minus Gunsmithing cost/value of cutdown of rifle to 16" (-$150), minus FFL fee on my side ($50), minus used gun/sight unseen factor (-$100), minus time, trouble & risk of doing a PPT via UPS (?). Lets face it, just like the value drop of a pre-melonite XD once the Melonite versions started to ship, the practical value of the Scout dropped once the SOCOM-16 started shipping. I know it sucks to loose money on a gun sale, but hey, theres no such thing as flipping guns for profit. My 13 year old Springfield Factory M1-Garand, which I paid $700 for new, could probably sell for at least that used now, but's it's taken 13 years, massive devaluation of the US-Peso and two gun bans to get me to a break-even resale price! That same $700 invested into my 401k in '94 would be worth around $2000 now! Another option for sale of this rifle would be to post it to www.calguns.net , which has quite a few members in the norcal area. You might be able to sqeak another $100 or so over my offer if you can do a FTF up there. Last edited by SoCalXD; 06-18-2007 at 12:01 PM. |

No, building up funds, but the problem is that I probably am leaning towards an AR for now... I am out of the lineup for this one.
