Full name of State rather than 2 letter abreviation?

This is mainly concerning the posts in the trading post. I don't know about everyone else here, but I like to look up items that are for sale in the state that I'm in. But you can't look up a state in the search field by just using the 2 letter abreviations, it's too short. I don't know anyone with a dealers license (FFL or whatever it is) to have people ship guns and stuff to, that's why I like to check what's for sale here in Utah, or Idaho (that's close enough to make a trip to if I ever needed to.) It's just a thought, figured I'd see if I was the only one that has thought about this or if you guys thought it would be a good idea too. Any input is appreciated.

one small word of caution when making out of state trips, it is againt federal BATFE laws for a resident of one state to purchase firearms from a nother state without have them be transfereed through an FFL, if you get cought doing so you could face a maximum of 10years in prison. just a suggestion but i would keep all my FTF deal in UTAH if thats your home state.

+1 on what TJ said.

Here's a place to search for FFL's. I plugged in Utah and there were quite a few to choose from.

Thanks for the advice. I already ran into that about 3 months ago. I was on a business trip in Idaho and wanted to buy an XD there because I couldn't find them anywhere here in Utah. But they wouldn't let me buy a handgun. Rifles and stuff would've been ok, as far as I understood.

But even if it wasn't to buy a gun, I would still like to be able to see what people within driving range have for sale.

I do appreciate you looking out for me though. It'd be a bad deal to get caught doing something like that and get thrown in the clink for 10 years.

Thanks lpspinner. I didn't know that there was a sight like that. That'll help out. You're a good man.

once you find you a local FFL you can go out of state and purchase hand guns but you will have to have them shipped back and transfered through your FFL

just an FYI while you can still legally purchase long guns out of state and bring them back, its NOT legal for you do a private FTF and transport them back across state lines.

Thank you.

Thanks for the advice, again.

What I really wanted to emphasize was getting people to put in the full name of the state in the title box so that you can search by that rather than having to drudge through all the posts looking for something local. A lot of times I'm not looking for something specific, but if I come across something that's a good deal and something local I might buy it.

But thanks again for keeping me out of hot water.

Perhaps a PM to Kermee with your thoughts
is a solution to your suggestion.

I think that's asking a little too much.

You should be able to scroll through the trading post and scan for your state abbreviation with no problems. While a search option would make it even EASIER, I personally don't have a problem spending ~10 mins looking at the recent posts to see what available. It's not like you'll be going through 20+ pages of them. If they are that old, what are the odds it's still for sale.
