I am envious! Indians are my favorite of the old time bikes. Best wishes on the rebuild.

OMG, Houseboat, that was my first bike!!!

My father gave it to me for my 16th birthday. It was special because it was as old as I am (1946).
LOL, that suicide shifter damn near killed me before I figured it out

I hope all goes well with the restoration.

Nice...my old landlord had a 63 BMW...it had an original leather saddle on it that was worth more than the bike itself. Forget the name of it. It has cable brakes...lol!!

Enjoy restoring that...I have a little 67 Harley Sprint "basketcase" sitting in boxes at my parents house in PA....one of these days...

Also, (I'm not a Harley guy), was this engine what was referred to as a "shovelhead?"
Not to stick my nose in others business, but the answer to that would be "no".

A shovelhead is a Harley and looks like this...

Rode the Indian today rebuilt the carb, new battery, got everything working but the generator.Tore the generator down it is a 6 volt 3 brush system. The brushes were broken and the armature looks like toast,so off for a rebuild on it,but was able to drive the bike a couple a miles today, without a hitch..

As far as my 1949 flathead Harley doing a rewire and rebuilding a few bushings in the front end.But this bike is pretty sweet..Some old timer told me the handlebars on it were worth about a thousand dollars, they called them Hollywoods, apparently they were a pretty limited production.Ill keep you posted.
