At first I was a little disappointed by the timing too, as I just got my XD back from Mr. Springer recently to have the current style SureSights installed. That was before I took it to the range. "Obsolete" or not I'm in love.
Give Chaim some time, guys, I'm sure they're working very hard over there to get these right instead of just rushing a prototype to market. Trust me, if the new models are even "only" as good as the current ones, they'll be worth it. If they're better, well... I expect them to be sold out solid for the next several years. Nobody would be able to keep up with that level of demand. |

I agree, it's worth the wait. I just hate to tie up $130 for three months before they ship.

Which is the better option?
I am interested in the Sure Sight Tritium sights, but I gather from the posts here that I will need to send my gun away to have the sights installed.
Am I better off buying the Sure Sights and paying for the installation ($130 + installation fee--not sure how much that will be) or spending $160 or so for the Lasermax Uni rail mount which I could easily install myself? I know the two options obviously work very differently, but given a choice (albeit between apples and oranges) which would you suggest? Thanks. |

The problem with the Uni laser, for me at least, is that having a rail laser/light means that you need to find a compatible holster. The Sure Sights should work with most holsters, but I would double check this. If you are using this as a range gun, shooting with a laser is pointless IMHO. Put that laser on target and bang, done. No real skill. Also, it won't work in bright sunlight. Personally, I would rather get the sights. I have a lasermax guide rod in my XDSC9, and never use it. Even if I were in a stressed situation, I don't even think I would remember to turn it on. I ALWAYS practice with sights. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice
I went ahead and pre-ordered. Curiousity just got the better of me and the cost of having the sights installed locally was minimal. Plus, sights don't require batteries and will help improve my marksmanship naturally rather than teaching me to rely on a laser. Thanks for the response and advice.

Delay in Shipping New Sure Sights Tritium
I just got an email from Sure Sights that the new tritium sights I ordered won't be shipped in Mid-June after all. They are now scheduled to ship in early August. UGH.
The pictures of the prototypes look pretty cool, though, so I can't wait to get them. Check out the pics here: Sure Sight - The Newest Idea in Accurate Shooting

Yah, I got the same email this evening. The sights look really radical....can't wait to get them...but of course we have to wait, longer now. Sigh...guess I'll get the free T-shirt "consolation prize".

Real innovative thinking there. I am scared of losing my money, so I will wait until someone gets theirs in August, just to be sure they will ship.
