Sure Sight range report
So although I've had the sure sights mounted on my carry piece (a .45 compact) for about a month now (I had it at Springer Precision to have the combat carry job done, as well as polishing the feed ramp and installing the sights) I haven't had a chance to really try them out (other than dry firing) until this weekend.
Using full power CCI Blazer Brass, WWB, some general defensive JHP's and some seriously stoked hand-loaded, moose-killing defense rounds I put about 200 rounds through it. The sights were great. Every string was started by drawing from my Mitch Rosen OWB carry holster at about the 4:30 position on my waist. They lined up naturally and quickly, and at 10, 15 and 25 meters put very acceptable groups into a USPSA target. I wasn't bench rest shooting or going for the most accurate, tight groups possible. I wanted to see how quickly I could get on target from my carry holster and how the groups would turn out firing in quick 2 and 3 round strings. Not one shot went off target and I never had any issue with sights dragging on the gun's way out of the holster. I also had on hand two other good shooters who compete in USPSA with me and I gave them both a go with the Springfield. Both of them had very positive things to say about the sights, mostly how nice and bright they were and how naturally your eye was drawn to the top of the triangle. We all agreed that they were very effective, especially when shooting full-power defensive rounds. The sights settled quickly for each successive shot. Great job, Chaim. They made a great gun better, and that's saying something. I see a lot of absolute gun-store commando crap hanging off weapons these days and all they do is detract from the original purpose of the weapon, possibly even endangering that person's life. Props also go to Scott Springer for the excellent trigger work. I'll be sending in my production-class Service XD 9 next ... |
