Chemical Resistance
I'm really interested in these Suresight's, but I'm wondering how the luminescent color coating will hold up to Gunscrubber/Brake Cleaner chemicals. I was looking at getting TFO's, but was told that brake cleaner would ruin the fiber optics. Bottom line, can I use brake cleaner on these sights?

We'd recommend against drenching them in brake fluid or other caustic chemicals for extended periods. However, if you get a little bit on, then wipe it off, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the reply. I always use Brake Cleaner as a final cleaning to reach the hard to get spots and to remove all traces of solvent after cleaning with Hoppes. After spraying with Brake Cleaner I immediately blow everything off with my compressor. Its never hurt any of my factory sights or taken the white dots off yet. Looks like these will be my new sights. Now to find a competent Gunsmith to install them without scaring my new sights or my slide.

I hate to resurrect such an old thread for my first post, but I’m a strong proponent of using forum search tools.
My gun cleaner of choice is Ed’s Red. It’s a mixture of Mineral Spirits, Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and Acetone. Will this hurt the yellow coating on these sights? I can tell some of my white dot sights have a pink tinge from the ATF, but not enough to bother me. If the Ed’s Red will take the yellow paint off or harm it, what gun cleaning solvent is recommended? It looks like you have a great forum going. I imagine I’ll be hanging out here a good bit now that I’m getting a XD45ACP. Thanks! |
