My SureSight Experience
Hi all,
I received my SureSights for both my XD 9mm Service and XD 45 Tac on Jan. 9th. After hunting around for a good gunsmith I had them installed on the 9mm and picked it up on the Feb. 16th. (I started with the 9mm because, for some reason, I seem to have more trouble sighting it versus the 45). Shot the 9mm with the SureSights for the first time last Friday at a local indoor range. As a newbie gunner I suffer from the same problems common to a right-hander -- trigger mash with a low-left impact pattern. No more with my SureSights. The very first thing I saw, on the very first shot, was the front sight dipping down and behind the left portion of the rear sight. I watched it happen as I pulled the trigger, almost as if it was in slow motion. The perfect triangle at set-up fell apart as I pulled the trigger. I almost didn't believe my eyes at first because I'd never actually seen this movement before with the factory sights (at least it never registered on my pea-sized brain). Same thing happened on the second shot. And the third. And then I had the epiphany. On the forth shot I kept that triangle formed and centered, and it was as if my trigger finger was detached from the rest of my hand. It pulled and everything else stayed steady. At seven yards I hit the orange bullseye. And you should have seen the grin on my face! For those of us who golf, at one time or another you've had that experience were all you did was swing the club, and just like you've heard a thousand times, the club just does the work. It's effortless and the ball flies high and straight. You don't struggle and it just happens. That's what happened to me last Friday. All I had to do was see the triangle, press the trigger, and the rest just happened. I'd only planned on shooting 100-150 rounds. With a couple of breaks I shot 300 -- because I was having so much damn fun! I ran a full body target out to 25 yards, and with the exception two rounds, one under each ear, I hit center mass or head shots on the remaining 58 rounds. For me, this was unbelievable. I'd written Chaim last year about how his concept struck me as such a obvious solution. What seemed perfectly logical is, in practice, perfectly doable. I not sure why Chaim says that it takes some getting used to. I suppose for those who grew up with notch-and-post and have shot thousands and thousands of rounds that way it might take some getting used to. But for me it was four rounds. As I write this I'm still amazed at how easy it was. Does anyone give an award for Best New Firearm Product Of The Year? |

Reading your report, for me, was like enjoying a nice slice of pie.
I tried to get the gunsmith at the Gander Mtn, where I bought the gun, to put them on earlier today - but he had an issue with needing a shim for his vice (he didn't inspire confidence). Needless to say, I told him thanks for trying, and I'll be looking for a different gunsmith tomorrow. I have been cautiously optimistic about the SureSights as of yet. But after reading your reaction - I can't wait to get them on! |

My SureSights should be here today, and I honestly can't wait.
Now if only he'd make some tritium-based night sights! *cough* |

No problem, hope you find some one to do it for you. Let me know how you like them. I am considering a set myself.

If you can see your target well enough to be sure it is Jeffrey Dahlmer and not cousin Edna you will at a minimum be able to see the triangular outline of the sights. If you put them under a nice flashlight they will illuminate for a while in the dark, but this would be better for lowlight competition stages as opposed to pulling it out of the nightstand at 3am.
